Bulldogs Drop Both in Conference Opener

Hunter College New York, NY---Coming off of back-to-back non-conference wins, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped both matches to start conference play in their first CUNYAC tri-match of the season today.  In its first match of the day, the Bulldogs were swept by the host, Hunter College, 3-0 (18, 10, 21).  Brooklyn dropped its afternoon match to John Jay, 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25).  The Bulldogs move to 3-7 on the season in their first two matches in CUNYAC play.  

Hunter Recap

-After scoring the first two points of the match, the Bulldogs kept it close halfway through the first set until the perennial conference power capitalized on a four-score rally that gave them an 18-13 advantage.  The Hawks carried its momentum into the second set as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead, closing the set with a 4-0 run.  Brooklyn relinquished a 17-13 lead in the third set as the Hawks rallied to retake the lead, 20-18.  The Bulldogs responded with three straight scores for its last lead of the match.  The Hawks closed out the match with a five-point rally.  
-Junior outside hitter, Vaughn Titus, led the Bulldogs with five kills.  
-Sophomore middle hitter Ahmed Moawad finished with four kills and three blocks.  
-Sophomore defensive specialist Snigdho Hasan finished with a team-high five digs.  
-Hunter's Blake Hogan finished with a match-high 15 kills.  

John Jay Recap

-Close to start the match, the Bloodhounds used a 5-0 run to blow the first set wide open, jumping out to a 16-8 lead.  Brooklyn evened the match in the second set, thanks to a three-point rally late in the set, giving the Bulldogs a 24-20 advantage.  With the Bulldogs in striking distance of the Bloodhounds down the stretch in the third set, John Jay rallied for three straight to put the set out of reach for BC.  Brooklyn rallied for seven straight late in the fourth set to cut the John Jay lead to 23-18, but the damage had already been done early in the set.  
-Vaughn Titus led the way once again with 10 kills and three service aces (two in the final set of the match).
-Junior Gabriel Pjatak finished with seven kills.  
-Senior middle hitter, Moaz Ali Choudhary, had a match-high six blocks.
