Brooklyn, NY---Trailing by as many as 20 points in the second half, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team pulled within seven points with a tick under a minute to play, but wasn't able to complete the comeback on Senior Night against the College of Staten Island, falling 87-78. Brooklyn senior wing, Maynard Grant IV, matched a season-high 20 points while fellow senior guard,
Niv Konfino, chipped in nine points to go along with four assists and seven rebounds. Brooklyn moves to 6-17 and 6-8 in CUNYAC in their final home game of the season. CSI improved to 14-12 and 12-3. The Bulldogs will have a day to prep for John Jay on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
How It Happened
-Leading by 10 points, 58-48, with 12:58 left in regulation, the visitor went on an 11-1 run to take their largest lead of the game (20) with 8:13 remaining in the game. Brooklyn responded with a 14-3 run of their own with guard Ben Batash scoring nine points during the stretch that was capped by a three-point make buried by sophomore wing, Henry O'Reilly. It would be O'Reilly again who cut the deficit to seven, 83-76, with :59 to go with a three-point make. However, the Dolphins would ice the game with three splits at the free throw line after defensive stops down the stretch.
-The teams battled back and forth in the first half. Brooklyn took their last lead of the contest, 22-21, with 7:26 left in the opening period. CSI would then go on a 14-2 run for the 35-24 advantage with 1:36 remaining in the opening half.
