Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team recorded its first doubleheader sweep of the season this evening, defeating Yeshiva University, 11-4, in the first game of the double bill and 12-4 (6 Innings) in the night cap. Brooklyn improves to 3-13 with the non-conference victories while Yeshiva dropped to 1-12. The Bulldogs return to conference play on Thursday at home against York College for Softball Homecoming. The first 125 fans will receive a FREE BC Athletics T-shirt.
Senior pitcher,
Uena Xharo, pitched all 13 innings on the night, improving to 3-8 in the circle for the season. In the first game, Xharo yielded six hits while facing 35 batters. She would only give up another six hits in the second game, charged with three of the Maccabees' four runs.
Game 1 Recap
The Bulldogs would jump out to a commanding 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the first game. Senior outfielder,
Daminska Estime, and sophomore infielder,
Anna Curran, both had RBI singles during the rally.
Yeshiva would score its first run of the game in the top of the second inning on n error. However, the Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the second. Estime picked up her second RBI of the game reaching on a fielder's choice, driving senior infielder,
Breanna Maresca home.
The teams exchanged runs once again in the third inning. Maresca would walk with the bases loaded to score sophomore infielder, Allison Gross.
The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth and sixth innings for the final score. Xharo would remain in control the entire way, sending the Macs out in order to end the game.
Senior infielder,
Nicole Boudouris was 2-3 with a RBI and scored two runs. Freshman infielder, Jessenia Garate doubled with a RBI and scored a run.
Game 2 Recap
With the score tied, 4-4, and the Bulldogs at-bat in the bottom of the sixth, BC exploded for eight runs to end the game in six innings.
Sophomore infielder,
Leslie Lima, led off the inning with a single. She would cross home on a RBI single hit by Maresca who went 2-4 with 3 RBI in the game.
The Bulldogs would go through the lineup before Maresca ended the game with another RBI single in the same inning, driving Boudouris home after walking earlier in the inning.
Lima was 3-5 with a pair of RBI and scored a run. Boudouris, Maresca, and Garate scored two runs each in the game. The Bulldogs finished with 12 hits for the game to the Macs' six.
