Bulldogs Sweep Second Doubleheader In a Row at Home Over York

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team won its third and fourth games in a row this evening, defeating York College, 13-5 (6 innings) in Game 1 and 17-1 (5 innings) in Game 2, for the CUNYAC doubleheader sweep.  BC moves to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in CUNYAC with its first two conference wins of the season.  The Cardinals dropped to 1-12 and 0-5 with the losses.  Brooklyn remains home on Saturday, 4/14, for another conference doubleheader against Lehman College on Senior Day. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm. 

Game 1 Recap

Already leading 9-5, the Bulldogs scored four runs on a pair of two-run homers in the bottom of the sixth inning for the last at-bat of the game.  Freshman infielder Jessenia Garate triple to lead the Bulldogs off.  She would trot home on the first homerun of the inning, blasted by senior infielder Breanna Maresca.  Following a single slapped by senior infielder, Brianna Preston, sophomore outfielder, Anna Curran, would crushed the Bulldogs' second homer of the inning.

York would strike first in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  Brooklyn responded with runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good.  Sophomore infielder Leslie Lima got the Bulldogs on the board scoring from third base on an error by the catcher.  Freshman outfielder Channel Jemmott hit an RBI single for the go-ahead run, scoring Garate.  Maresca capped the rally in the first inning, scoring from home on a wild pitch.  

The Bulldogs picked up five more runs in the bottom of the third inning on a pair of hits.  

Maresca went 1-2 with the sixth inning homer, finished with three RBI, and walked twice.  Senior infielder Nicole Bourdouris was 2-4 and scored a run.  Maresca and Garate scored three runs a piece.  Senior pitcher, Uena Xharo, pitched all six innings, yielding six hits, and charged with one of the Cardinals' five runs.  

Game 2 Recap

After a solid outing in Game 1, Brooklyn starter, Uena Xharo, got even better as the night progressed and got some help from a BC defense that didn't commit an error in the five innings of play.  The Cardinals only managed two hits off of the righty with six batters punched out on strikes.  

The Bulldogs scored eight unanswered runs between the first and second innings before the Cardinals managed their only run of the game in top of the third inning.  

Garate blasted two homeruns in the game, a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and a grand-slam in th bottom of the fourth inning to finish with seven RBI.  She would also score three runs herself.  

Curran was 2-2 with two walks, two RBI, and scored two runs.  Bourdouris had a another efficient offensive showing going 2-3 and scoring two runs.  Maresca went 1-2 with a triple and scored a game-high four runs.  

Xharo improved to 5-8 with her second victory of the evening after five innings of work.
