Randall's Island, NY----In its second-to-last doubleheader of the regular season, the Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games to Hunter College this afternoon in conference play. Brooklyn moves to 5-17 overall and 2-8 in CUNYAC while Hunter improved to 14-12 and 6-2. The Bulldogs wrap up the season on the road against John Jay College in a conference doubleheader at Randall's Island on Tuesday, April 24, at 3:30 pm.
In Game 1 of the double bill, the Hawks scored eight runs through the first three innings of play while limiting the Bulldogs to a double hit by sophomore infielder,
Anna Curran, in the top of the first. Trailing 8-0, BC almost avoided the shutout with Curran leading off the fourth with a walk and the next batter, freshman infielder, Jessenia Garate, crushing a double. However, Hunter threw Curran out as she tried to advance to third. Garate would find herself stranded at third with back-to-back Bulldog outs to end the top of the inning. Hunter Game 1 starter, Nicole Guzzone, improved to 6-3 with the win. BC starter,
Uena Xharo, dropped to 5-11 with the loss.
Errors plagued the Bulldogs in Game 2 with Xharo, Brooklyn's starter, only charged with four of the Hawks' 11 runs. Hunter starter, Diana Ferreira, pitched five no-hit innings for her third win of the season to improve to 3-1.
The Bulldogs had two baserunners in the game with senior infielder
Breanna Maresca walking in the top of the first inning and senior outfielder,
Daminska Estime, hit by a pitch in the top of the second inning.
