Bulldogs Drop Both Games of Conference Doubleheader to CSI

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a CUNYAC doubleheader this afternoon to the College of Staten Island at BC Field.  In Game 1 Brooklyn rallied late, but the Dolphins ended the game in five innings with an 18-5 victory.  Staten Island would go on to with Game 2, 14-0 (5 innings), improving to 9-7 overall and 4-0 in conference play.  Brooklyn drops to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in CUNYAC with the losses.  The Bulldogs return to their non-conference schedule on Monday as they are set to travel to the University of Valley Forge for a doubleheader.

Game 1 Recap

The Dolphins jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play.  CSI tacked on six more runs in the top of the second inning, maintaining an 8-0 lead through three innings.  Following a scoreless third inning, the Dolphins scored three runs in the top of the fourth on two hits and an error.

Trailing 18-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bulldogs' bats came alive against CSI's relief pitching.  Freshman outfielder, Chanel Jemmott, crushed a leadoff double to start the BC rally.  The next batter, sophomore infielder, Anna Curran, moved Jemmott to third with a single.  Senior infielder, Uena Xharo, would then walk to load the bases.  With one out, senior infielder, Breanna Maresca, singled, scoring Xharo and Curran.  Sophomore infielder, Leslie Lima, then hit a single scoring Brittany Preston who reached base earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice and Maresca who scored on an error.

Lima scored the Bulldogs' final run of the game from third on an error by CSI's catcher.

Lima would go 2-3 with two RBI and a stolen base.  Maresca was 1-3 with two RBI.

BC starting pitcher, Uena Xharo, pitched all five innings, yielding 16 hits, and allowing all 18 runs (10 earned).  Xharo falls to 1-6 with the loss.

Game 2

CSI starting pitcher, Alison Meagher, tossed all five innings of perfect softball, striking out eight Bulldog batters for the game to improve to 5-3 on the season.

The Dolphins took advantage of a pair of walks and three hit-by-pitches to score three runs in the top of the first without a hit.  CSI added four more runs in the top of the second on two hits and three BC errors. Xharo would come in for relief of BC freshman starter Brittany Lay halfway through the second.

CSI continued to cruise offensively for the final score of the game through four innings.  Meagher was more efficient as the game wore on, putting the Bulldogs out in order with a minimal number of pitches.

CSI's leadoff batter, Antoinette Galbo, went 2-4 with a homer and a double finishing with three RBI.  The Dolphins' catcher, Jamie Holmes, was 3-3 with a pair of doubles, driving in four runs.
