Brooklyn Drops Both at Valley Forge

Phoenixville, PA---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader on the road this evening at the University of Valley Forge.  In Game 1 of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs were edged, 13-11, before falling to the Patriots, 12-4 (5 innings), in Game 2.  The Bulldogs drop to 1-13 with the two losses while UVF improved to 4-12.  Brooklyn returns home tomorrow evening, April 10th, for a non-conference doubleheader against Yeshiva University starting at 5:00 pm.  

Game 1 Recap

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a RBI single and a run scored by senior infielder, Nicole Boudouris.  However, the Patriots responded with a two-run first inning of their own to tie the game.  

UVF took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning, scoring another two runs including a run on a BC fielding error.  

Brooklyn bounced back in the top of the third, scoring a pair of runs to tie the game, 4-4.  Sophomore infielder Leslie Lima would reach base on a leadoff walk.  She would eventually reach home on a RBI ground-out hit by freshman outfielder, Chanel Jemmott. With two outs and the bases loaded, senior infielder Brianna Preston would walk, scoring Boudouris for the second time of the game.  

The Patriots would retake the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 7-4 lead.  The rally was highlighted by a solo inside the park homer.  

BC wouldn't go away rallying for four runs in the top of the fourth inning for its first lead since the top of the first.  The Bulldogs' first four batters of the inning reached base including Boudouris who singled to load the bases.  Senior infielder Breanna Maresca was the first batter to cross home after Jemmott walked with the bases loaded.  With one out, sophomore infielder Anna Curran would then walk scoring Lima. Boudouris scored her third run of the contest on a passed ball to tie the game, 7-7.  With two outs, freshman infielder Jessenia Garate knocked in the go-ahead run with a RBI single scoring Curran.  

The Patriots tied the game, 8-8, in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI ground-out with two outs.  

Brooklyn took the lead once again in the top of the fifth inning.  With outs and runners on first and second, Curran tripled to center field, scoring Bourdouris and senior infielder Uena Xharo, giving BC the 10-8 advantage.  Curran scored, giving Brooklyn an 11-8, lead after a Preston reached on an error.  The Bulldogs maintained the 11-8 lead through the fifth inning with UVF runners stranded on second and third.  

UVF took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring five runs for the final score.  Brooklyn would go down in order in the top of the seventh inning to end the game.  

Boudouris was 2-2, scoring four BC runs.  Curran was 1-3 with three RBI.  Xharo would be credited for the loss, pitching all six innings yielding 13 hits.  

Game 2 Recap

The Bulldogs jumped out to another 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Bourdouris would lead off the game with a single eventually scoring BC's first run on a RBI single hit by Lima.  Lima would score next, driven in on a RBI single hit by Maresca.  

Xharo would also start the second game of the doubleheader, keeping the Patriots scoreless in the bottom of the first.  

With BC still on top 2-0 through one and a half innings, the Patrtiots took thir first lead of the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second.  

Brooklyn would retake the lead in the top of the third inning on a ground-out RBI hit by senior outfielder Daminska Estime, scoring Garate who reached on an error to start the inning.  With two outs, Lima stole home for the go-ahead run.  

After tying the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the third inning, the Patriots blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth, rallying for six runs.  UVF added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  

Lima was 1-3, scoring two of the Bulldogs' four runs.
