Brooklyn College Athletics Holds 24th Annual Awards Luncheon

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Office of Recreation, Intramurals and Intercollegiate Athletics hosted its 24th Annual Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony celebrating the 2017-18 sports season this afternoon held in the Gold Room of the BC Student Center.

Alex Lang (Associate Athletic Director/ Head Women's Basketball Coach) served as the master of ceremonies for the event that honored Brooklyn's student-athletes across 14 athletic teams.

Four major awards were handed out on the day with the Ed Madden Memorial Award and the Tracy Ohrman Memorial Award. The Ed Madden Memorial Award is given to one male and one female student-athlete that demonstrate courage and leadership, while exemplifying the true spirit of sport. The Tracy Ohrman Award is given to one male and one female student-athlete that exemplify personal strength and perseverance.

The Ed Madden Memorial Award was given out to Jean-Luc Saint-Fleur (Men's Soccer) and Karen Mak (Women's Basketball), while the Tracy Ohrman Memorial Award was given out to Uena Xharo (Softball) and Teon Chaumette (Men's Soccer).

Joseph Andre (Head Men's Soccer Coach/ Athletic Department Associate) handed out the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Awards to Niv Konfino (Men's Basketball) and Anna Curran (Women's Soccer/Softball).

The various all-conference honorees from this past season were also recognized. In total, BC racked up 23 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) All-Stars including Player of the Year winners (Ievgeniia Kostenko - Women's Tennis, Sarina Rozek – Women's Volleyball), CUNYAC Rookie of the Year winners (Rosa Aksanov – Women's Tennis, Azizjon Ziyaev – Men's Soccer, Taylor George – Women's Basketball, Rohan Mathur - Men's Tennis), and a CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award recipient (Ashley Calandra – Women's Soccer).  In addition, BC Head Coaches, Alex Lang – Women's Basketball and Mateusz Gotowicki, earned conference Coach of the Year honors.  A representative from the CUNYAC office was in attendance to recognize all of the CUNYAC award recipients.

There were a total of 82 CUNYAC Scholar Athletes (GPA of 3.2 and above).  Seniors Teon Chaumette (Men's Soccer), Karen Mak (Women's Basketball), Weronica Green (Women's Basketball), and Ian Miranda (Men's Volleyball) were recognized as Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athletes. 

To conclude the festivities, each head coach presented their Most Outstanding Player Award, as well as their BC Bulldog Coaches' Award.
