EmPowered Athletes Serving Others (EPASO) is a multi-faceted initiative that is run under the supervision of the Director of Recreation, Intramurals and Intercollegiate Athletics. The program encompasses civic engagement, academic development and co-curricular projects for our student-athletes. EPASO serves as a major instrument in the enhancement of the academic experience at Brooklyn College. This support system will help lead our student-athletes to receive more honors such as those conferred on a Rhodes Scholar, in addition to a great number of yearly recipients for awards such as the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars and the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Scholar-Athlete award. Retention of our student-athletes is another goal of the program.
Brooklyn College Student-Athletes Continue To Excel In Classroom
Brooklyn College student-athletes have always been known to be top-notch students in addition to their prowess in their sports. In 2017-18, the Bulldogs were proud to announce 82 CUNYAC Scholar-Athletes who boasted GPA's of 3.2 or higher. Four of those, were seniors Karen Mak (Women's Basketball), Weronica Green (Women's Basketball), Teon Chaumette (Men's Soccer) and Ian Miranda (Men's Volleyball), who were honored by CUNYAC as Scholar-Athlete of the Year honorable mention winners, each being represented at the annual dinner hosted by CUNYAC. In addition, six Brooklyn College student-athletes would be named 2018 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholars. Senior, Karen Mak, would earn the award for the third time in her collegiate career while senior Maynard Grant IV, sophomore, Leslie Lima, senior Jean-Luc Saint-Fleur, junior, Sayuj Zachariah, and senior, Ian Miranda became first-time honorees.
