Newark, NJ---The Brooklyn College women's tennis team got off on the right foot to start its season this evening, defeating Rutgers-Newark, 6-3, in non-conference action on the road. Rutgers-Newark drops to 0-2 to start the season. The Bulldogs will open at home on the Roosevelt Courts on Saturday, September 15th, against Purchase College at 12:00 pm.

Shannel Johnson clinched the win for the Bulldogs with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Sophomore
Elizaveta Meshkalova won the sixth match of the evening for the Bulldogs in dramatic fashion with a 10-7 victory in a third set super tiebreak.
