Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in CUNYAC play in dramatic fashion this evening, defeating Hunter College, 3-2, in the 94' minute of action. Brooklyn moves to 2-9 overall with the overtime victory while the Hawks dropped to 2-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in CUNYAC. The Bulldogs continue their conference schedule at Lehman College on Saturday, September 29th, at noon.
Four minutes into the first overtime and the match tied, 2-2, junior midfielder,
Stewart Bailon, would send a perfect through pass to sophomore forward,
Carlos Calzadilla who hit the ball into the back of the net under the keeper's fingertips for the game-winner.
The Bulldogs got on the board first in the 14' on a free kick put away by sophomore midfielder,
Brian Navarrete, for his second goal of the season. Hunter responded in the 32' to tie the match and would take the lead, 2-1, only three minutes later. The Hawks held the 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.
Brooklyn came out of the half with the same type of energy it had to start the match and it payed off as the Bulldogs tied the match on a header put in by sophomore back,
Daniel Gurov, placed perfectly on a corner kick hit by Navarrete in the 50'.
It was a physical remainder of regulation as the teams stayed deadlocked, 2-2, after ninety minutes of play forcing the first overtime.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Hawks, 17-12, for the match with Hunter having the slight edge on shots-on-goal, 6-5.
BC sophomore keeper,
Balint Barabas, had a solid afternoon in goal finishing with four saves.
