Brooklyn, NY---Playing for third place in the CUNYAC standings, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team held off a scrappy Medgar Evers squad for a 88-83 win at home this evening. The Bulldogs improve to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference with the win while Medgar dropped to 6-11 and 5-4 in CUNYAC with the loss. Brooklyn snapped the Cougars' three-game win-streak heading into tonight's contest. Brooklyn continues conference play for a second go-around with York College on the road on Wednesday, January 23, at 7:30 pm.
How It Happened
-The Bulldogs would maintain a lead the entire contest despite a number of Medgar spurts where it looked like there might have been a momentum shift. With the Bulldogs leading by as many as nine points early in the second half, the Cougars would cut BC's lead to a point (48-47) with 14:00 left in the game following a 7-0 MEC run. However, the Bulldogs retaliated with an 8-2 run kicking the lead by up to seven with 10:20 left in the game.
-Brooklyn extended its lead 72-60 with with 5:23 remaining in regulation following a made three drained by senior guard, Nathan Josephat. Medgar made one final push in the final two minutes of regulation, but sophomore guard
Noah Shy's two freethrow makes with :11 sealed the contest for the Bulldogs.
-BC out-rebounded the Cougars 20-10 on the offensive boards for the game.
-Brooklyn made 24 free-throws to MEC's eight for the contest.

-Shy led the Bulldogs with 20 points while dishing out a game-high nine assists.
-Junior guard
Michael Tesoriero and junior forward,
Jade Spencer, scored 16 points a piece. Spencer grabbed 12 rebounds for the game's only double-double. Tesoriero also dished out eight assists and picked four steals.
-Sophomore
Nico Serrano dropped 13 points burying four threes for the night.
-Junior guard
Orri Cohen came off of the bench to contribute 12 points draining three threes.
Leading the Cougars
-Jafet Thomas scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
-Joancarlo Bonilla added 16 points.
