Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball dropped its first loss of the season this evening to Medgar Evers College, 0-3 (21-25, 23-25, 23-25) in a non-conference match at the West Quad Center. BC moves to 2-1 overall with the loss while the Cougars improved to 3-0 to start the season. The Bulldogs will have a week to prepare for their trip to Ohio where they will take on Hiram College and Wittenburg University.
How It Happened
-Trailing two sets to zero, the Bulldogs seemed to have a momentum tilt in their favor leading 23-21 in the third set. However, the Cougars rallied for four straight scores to close out the match, 25-23.
-Down 23-20 in the second set, the Bulldogs put together a three score rally capped by a service ace delivered by sophomore outside hitter,
Jasper Diangco. However, he hit a service error on the following serve and the Cougars won the set with a kill on the next play.
-Medgar came to play from the opening serve, jumping out to a 4-1 to start the match. Brooklyn would eventually tie the first set, 15-15, thanks to a five score rally capped by a service ace served up by senior setter,
Sayuj Zachariah. Medgar closed out the first set with three straight scores sparked by a kill.
Leading the Bulldogs
-In his first match of the season, junior middle hitter,
Ahmed Moawad, finished with a team-high seven kills.
-Freshman middle,
Omar Rezika, had a match-high five blocks.
Leading the Cougars
-Emmanuel Jacquez and Nius St. Clair finished with 11 kills each.
-Romell Carter set for a match-high 15 assists.
-St. Clair also finished with a match-high ten digs in the win.
