Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team only lost game in two conference wins at the West Quad Center today. In the first match of the day, Brooklyn defeated CCNY, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18), and closed out the CUNYAC trimatch with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-3) rout of York College. In the second match of the day, CCNY swept York, 3-0. BC improves to 12-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the wins. The Bulldogs return to their non-conference slate at Rutgers-Camden next Saturday as they take on the host and Gwynedd Mercy in a trimatch.
Match Summary vs. CCNY
-The visitor came to play, hitting .138 to Brooklyn's -.029, to take the first set.
-Brooklyn responded in the second set thanks to a six-point rally for an 8-4 toward the beginning of the game and hold on to the lead from there on.
-Trailing CCNY 14-12, the Bulldogs went on a 6-1 run to retake the lead for good. BC closed out the game with back-to-back scores sparked by a kill put away by freshman opposite,
Ashley Fung.
-Already leading 9-8 in the fourth game, the Bulldogs blew game open with an eight-point rally that kept the Beavers away for good.
-BC served up 15 aces to CCNY's five.
-Fung led the way with 16 kills and five service aces. Freshman outside hitter,
Madison Cronk, also reached double-figures in kills with 11. Sophomore setter,
Ezri Shor, set a new career-high with 40 assists.
-Nicole Polanco led the way for the Beavers with a team-high 14 kills. Kayla Oge added 10 kills to go along with a match-high four blocks.
Match Summary vs. York
-York hung around in the first half of the first two games before Brooklyn went on devastating long runs toward the end of each game.
-The Bulldogs cruised in the final game of the day, jumping out to a 14-0 lead and never looking back.
-Brooklyn served up 15 aces for a total of 30 on the day. BC did not yield an ace against York.
-Fung put away a match-high 10 kills while hitting .316. Junior,
Yana Shaposhnikova, who usually palys a defensive position got involved in the offense finishing with six kills on six attacks for a perfect hitting percentage.Shor added 30 assists to her day.
