Bulldogs Defeat John Jay, 67-61, on Senior Night for Third Place in CUNYAC Standings

Brooklyn, NY---Playing for third place in the conference standings, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team pulled out a 67-61 win at home over John Jay College this evening on Senior Night. Senior guard, Nathan Jossphat, drained a big three in the second half in the win.  Brooklyn improves to 14-10 overall and 9-6 in CUNYAC while the Bloodhounds drop to 14-10 and 8-7 in league play.  The Bulldogs close out the 2019 regular season at Medgar Evers on Wednesday, February 13, at 8:00 pm.  

How It Happened

-A tie contest, 54-54, with 4:18 left in regulation, BC sophomore guard, Noah Shy, drove the lane for a lay-in to give Brooklyn the lead for good with 3:01 to go.  Following a 1:30 stalemate, Brooklyn junior guard, Michael Tesoriero, cushioned BC's lead with a made three with 1:31 remaining.  The Bulldogs secured the win at the charity stripe in the final minute of play.  
-Brooklyn ended the first half with an 8-0 run capped by made jumper buried by junior guard, Jordan Wright, with five ticks remaining.  The Bulldogs led 35-25 at the half.  
-John Jay responded with a 9-0 run in the first 2:30 of the second half to only trail the Bulldogs, 38-35.  The Bloodhounds continued to rally until they found themselves up 52-48 with 9:00 remaining in the second half.  Brooklyn would retake the lead with a 6-0 spurt sparked by a fastbreak lay-up finished by junior forward, Jade Spencer.  
-BC forced 28 John Jay turnovers while only committing 13 for the game.  
-The Bulldogs also out-rebounded the Bloodhounds 10-3 on the offensive boards for the game.  

Leading the Bulldogs

-Wright scored a team-high 17 points. 
-Junior guard, Anthony McClean, dropped 16 off of the bench make 3-6 from beyond the arc.  
-Shy added 15 points and Tesoriero scored ten while dishing out seven assists and coming up with six steals.  

Leading John Jay

-Essien Epps scored a game-high 22 points, dished out eight assists, and grabbed 13 rebounds.  
-Eric Pujols scored 15 off of the bench draining 5-7 from 'downtown'. 
-Kyle LaGuardia scored 12 points and grabbed rebounds.
