Brooklyn, NY---For the second game in a row, the Brooklyn College men's basketball's late run was cut short, as the Bulldogs were outlasted in their regular season finale, 76-73, at Medgar Evers College in CUNYAC play tonight. The Bulldogs close out the regular season with a 14-11 overall record including a 9-7 mark in conference play while Medgar Evers improves to 9-16 overall and 7-9 in conference play. Brooklyn enters the CUNYAC Championships as the No. 4 seed and ironically enough will host Medgar Evers this Saturday, February 16, in a quarterfinal match-up. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm at the West Quad Center.
How It Happened
-Trailing the Cougars by as many as 16 points in the second half, the Bulldogs were able to cut the Cougar lead to 74-73 with :17 left in regulation following a lay-in finished by junior guard,
Jordan Wright. However, with the Bulldogs forced to foul on the Cougars' inbound, MEC's Justin Sutton converted on both free throws. The Bulldogs' weren't able to get closer on their final possession.
-Brooklyn's only lead of the game was 7-6 with 16:55 left in the first half. The Cougars maintained a lead from the 16:04 mark in the first half until the final buzzer.
-MEC's Sutton and Joancarlo Bonilla combined for 56 points.
-The Cougars shot 14-16 from the free throw line as a team for the game.
Leading the Bulldogs
-Wright scored a team-high 17 points.
-Junior forward,
Jade Spencer, scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the contest's only double-double.
-Junior guard,
Anthony McClean, scored 11 points off of the bench while connecting on 3-5 from behind the arc.
Leading the Cougars
-Sutton and Bonilla shared game-high scoring honors with 28 points a piece. Sutton also grabbed nine rebounds while Bonilla shot 7-9 from beyond the arc.
-Sean Webb chipped in nine points and dished out seven assists off of the Medgar Evers bench.
