Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of its season opening doubleheader to Albertus Magnus College this afternoon at Brooklyn College Field. Albertus Magnus took the first game of the double bill, 18-0 (5 innings), and closed out the afternoon with a 15-2 (5 innings) win in the finale. The Falcons improved to 6-4 with the non-conference victories. Brooklyn will look to bounce back at home this Friday, March 22, against the University of Valley Forge. The schedule doubleheader is set for a 3:00 pm start.
Early errors plagued the Bulldogs in the first game as the Falcons jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first inning. The visitors unloaded for eight more runs in the second inning.
Junior infielder,
Anna Curran, gave BC its lone hit of the first game in the bottom of the first inning.
AMC starting pitcher, Laura Anderson, improved to 3-0 with the win. BC freshman pitcher,
Megan Ortiz-Mengedoht, would be charged with the loss in her debut.
An eight-run third inning for the Falcons in the second game gave AMC a 12-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs showed resilience in the bottom of the third scoring their first two runs of the season. Junior infielder,
Leslie Lima, started the rally with a one-single. Curran would slap her second hit of the afternoon advancing Lima to second. With two, Lima and Curran, would steal second and third respectively. Lima would score as freshman infielder,
Sienna Bacchio-Wilson, reached on an error the next at-bat. She would then steal second and Curran would score from third on the throw. Bacchio-Wilson also had the Bulldogs' third hit of the game.
Curran would be charged with the loss in the circle in the second while the Falcons' Erin Dighello improved to 2-3 with the victory.
