Bulldogs Split With Valley Forge for First Win of the Season

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team picked up its first win of the 2019 season this afternoon splitting with the University of Valley Forge in a non-conference doubleheader at Brooklyn College Field.  Brooklyn dropped the first game of the double-bill 18-14 before taking the second, 17-9.  The Bulldogs move to 1-3 to start the season.  The Patriots also move to 1-3 overall with the split. BC continues its non-conference schedule at Purchase College on Sunday.  

Game 1 Highlights

-UVF would unload for seven runs in the top of the first inning.  However, the Bulldogs responded with five runs of their own beginning with an RBI double hit by junior Anna Curran to drive home freshman Kayla Trembone. The Bulldogs then scored a pair of runs on an error.  Freshman Bryana DeLuca blasted a RBI double fellow freshman Megan Ortiz-Menghedot. 
-The Patriots added seven more runs in the top of the second inning.  Brooklyn chipped away at the lead in the next two innings, cutting the Patriot lead to 14-11 at the end of the third capped by a RBI single slapped by sophomore outfielder  to score Curran. 
-Trailing 18-12 heading into their final at-bat, the Bulldogs made one last valiant effort highlighted by a DeLuca two-run with two outs.  However, the rally and game ended at the next at-bat for the final score.  

Game 1 Stats Highlights
-Curran went 3-4 with three doubles and scored four runs. 
-Jemmott went 2-3 with a double and scored two runs. 
-DeLuca went 2-4 with a homer and double and three RBI. 

Game 2 Highlights
-Brooklyn jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning.  A bunt single laid down by freshman infielder, Megan Ortiz-Mengedoht, would score Jemmot and DeLuca. 
-The Bulldogs continued to roll, grabbing a 13-3 lead after the third inning.  
-The Patriots methodically made their way back into the contest, cutting the BC lead to 13-6 highlighted by a  two-RBI double hit by Jordyn Clarke. 
-Leading 14-9 in the bottom of the sixth, Jessica Miranda led off with a single.  She would score on a Curran RBI single. DeLuca would then double scoring junior Leslie Lima who walked.  Freshman, Melanie Garate, earned the game-ending RBI base-on-balls to score Curran.  

Game 2 Stats Highlights 

-Curran earned her first win of the season in the circle, pitching all six innings while facing 26 batters.  She also went 2-4 with a RBI and scored four runs.
-Lima went 3-5 with a double and scored two runs. 
-Trembone went 2-3 with a double and five RBI.
