Bulldogs Fall to CCNY, 3-1, on Senior Night

Brooklyn, NY---In an action packed conference match, the Brooklyn men's volleyball team lost a tough one in the third set, eventually falling to CCNY, 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 26-28, 18-25).  Brooklyn drops to 7-11 overall and 1-4 in CUNYAC with the loss while the Beavers improved to 11-4 and 2-2 in conference play.  Prior to the match, senior setter, Sayuj Zachariah, and senior outside hitter, Ryan Chabel, were recognized.  The Bulldogs are on the road at New Jersey City University on Saturday for a non-conference tri-match to take on the host and the College of St. Elizabeth.  

How It Happened

-Already leading 17-16 in the first set, the Bulldogs rallied for three straight scores sparked by a kill put away by freshman Omar Rezika.  Junior defensive specialist, Utku Tanritanir ended the set with a kill. 
-CCNY tied the match in the set, jumping out a to a 4-1 lead and keeping a comfortable cushion the rest of the way.  Brooklyn managed a couple of late rallies, but CCNY was able to weather the storm. 
-The highlight of the evening was the match's third set.  Trailing 10-8, the Bulldogs rallied for four straight scores to retake the lead.  The teams would battle back and forth before Brooklyn took a 23-19 heading down the stretch.  CCNY would tie the set on four straight points.  A Rezika kill would give Brooklyn a 25-24 edge before CCNY responded with two straight.  Junior middle hitter Gabriel Hitter tied the set with a kill before CCNY closed out the third with two straight.
-The Beavers put enough clusters of short rallies to keep a solid edge in the fourth set to close out the match.

-Rezika finished with a team-high 12 kills and 15 points.
-The senior Zachariah totaled a team-high 27 assists.

-Xhulio Mytfari exploded for 31 kills and 39.5 points.
-Hei Chun Chan set for 41 assists.
