Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a conference doubleheader to John Jay College at home this afternoon. In Game 1, the Bulldogs were shutout 17-0 in five innings and the Bloodhounds closed out the day with a 10-2 win in five innings in Game 2. Following the games, Brooklyn seniors,
Viviana Torres and
Sienna Bacchio-Wilson were recognized on Senior Night. Brooklyn drops to 2-16 overall and 0-6 in CUNYAC with the losses while John Jay improved to 10-12 and 4-2 with the victories. The Bulldogs continue their conference schedule on their home field on Thursday against Baruch College for a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 pm.
How It Happened (Game 1)
-John Jay Starting pitcher, Julianne Graepel pitched all five innings of shutout softball yielding one hit, walking two BC batters, and striking out a pair.
-The Bloodhounds opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs including two unearned. John Jay blew the game opened in the bottom of the third inning, scoring ten more runs. Errors plagued the Bulldogs all game finishing with seven in the five innings played.
-BC freshman infielder,
Megan Ortiz-Mengedoht, had the Bulldogs lone hit in the bottom of the second inning.
-John Jay's Jessica Barbaria was 3-5 with four RBI. She also scored a pair of runs.
How It Happened (Game 2)
-Trailing the Bloodhounds 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bulldogs rallied late with one out. Junior infielder,
Leslie Lima, started the rally with a single and would advance to second following single slapped by junior infielder
Anna Curran with two outs. Lima and Curran were driven home on an single blooped to center field by junior catcher,
Shakira Feliciano. However, BC's run was cut short on its next batter to close out the evening.
-After scoring three runs in the top of the first, the Bloodhounds scored a run in the next three innings before rallying in the top of the fifth for four runs.
-John Jay starting pitcher, AnneMarie Rivera pitched all five innings, striking out eight BC batters to improve to 5-2 overall on the season.
-Feliciano and Lima were both 2-3 at the plate for Brooklyn.
-Barbaria was perfect at the plate going 4-4 with a double while knocking three runs and scoring a pair herself.
