Box Score 2 Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team picked up a non-conference split this evening with Yeshiva University. In Game 1, Brooklyn would prevail 7-4 before Yeshiva closed out the evening with their first win of the season, 20-12 (6 Innings). The Bulldogs go to 2-8 overall with the split while YU moves to 1-15. Brooklyn returns home on Thursday for a non-conference double against local foe, St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. Game 1 for the scheduled doubleheader is set for 5:00 pm.
How It Happened (Game 1)
-BC freshman pitcher,
Megan Ortiz-Mengedoht notched her first win of the season pitching all seven innings charged with only one earned run while striking out five Yeshiva batters.
-Brooklyn got on the board first in the top of the first inning on a RBI single hit by junior infielder,
Anna Curran, driving home freshman infielder,
Kayla Trembone. Tremone scored three runs for the game.
-Yeshiva tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the fifth on a pair Brooklyn errors.
-The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs, highlighted by an RBI single slapped by junior catcher,
Shakira Feliciano.
-Curran went 2-5 for the game with a double. Senior outfielder,
Alyssa Taylor, went 2-4 and scored a run.
How It Happened (Game 2)
-The Macs scored 12 unanswered runs in the final two innings of the game on five hits.
-Brooklyn jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman outfielder,
Sienna Bacchio-Wilson hit an RBI single during the rally to score Trembone.
-The Bulldogs grabbed an 8-1 lead after tacking on four more runs in the top of the second.
-Junior infielder,
Melanie Garate, gave Brooklyn a 12-5 in the top of the fourth with a grand slam to right field for her first homer of the season. She knocked in six runs for the game.
-The Macs clawed their way back into the game beginning with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
-Feliciano was 2-3 and scored three Bulldog runs.
-YU's Basya Goldstein and Gabi Chutter both went 3-4.
