Box Score 2 Bellerose, NY---Two days in the making, the Brooklyn College softball team picked up a CUNYAC split with York College this afternoon for its first conference win of the season. Taking a 13-0 lead through four innings on Tuesday, the Bulldogs rolled to a 15-1 victory in Game 1 completed today. Brooklyn then dropped an extra-innings heartbreaker, 16-15, in nine innings to the Cardinals in Game 2 to close out the series. The Bulldogs go to 3-21 overall and 1-11 in CUNYAC while York moved to 1-17 and 1-9 with its first win for the season. Brooklyn will close out the season on Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader makeup at the University of Valley Forge starting at 11:00 am in Phoenixville, PA.
How It Happened (Game 1)
-BC freshman pitcher, Megan Ortiz-Menegedoht, pitched four no-hit innings on Tuesday with a 13-0 cushion before completing the game today allowing York's lone run, yielding two hits, while striking out five in five innings of work for her second win of the season.
-Brooklyn didn't waste any time scoring six runs in the top of the first inning highlighted by a 2-RBI single slapped up the middle by freshman infielder,
Kayla Trembone. The Bulldogs continued to roll in the top of the second inning, tacking on seven more runs. During the rally in the second, junior infielder,
Anna Curran, knocked a 2-RBI double scoring Trembone and junior infielder,
Leslie Lima. BC added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning this afternoon starting with an RBI single hit by Ortiz-Mengedoht and finished with an RBI single hit up the middle by senior outfielder,
Sienna Bacchio-Wilson, to score Ortiz-Mengedoht.
-The Bulldogs were led offensively by sophomore outfielder,
Chanel Jemmott, who went 2-3 with three RBI. She also crossed home twice.
How It Happened (Game 2)
-After Brooklyn junior catcher,
Shakira Feliciano, gave the Bulldogs a 15-14 lead reaching on a fielder's choice to score Lima in the top of the ninth, the Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the inning including the go-ahead run on an RBI walk.
-A back-and-forth game throughout, Lima crushed a triple down the left line to score Trembone to give BC its largest lead of the game, 10-7, in the bottom of the seventh inning. However, the Cardinals responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
-Trailing the Cardinals 6-3, the Bulldogs rallied for five runs in the top of the fourth inning for an 8-6 advantage. Junior infielder,
Melanie Garate, hit a 3-RBI single during the scoring frenzy.
-Garate led the way offensively for the Bulldogs going 3-5 with five RBI, scored a run, and stole two bases. Feliciano scored four BC runs.
