Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team dropped to 1-2 to start the season this evening, falling to the Merchant Marine Academy, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-14). USMMA improved to 2-0 to start their season. BC will continue its three-match home stand on Tuesday to host Maritime at 7:00 pm.
Match Summary
-Close through the first half of the opening game, the visitor rallied for seven unanswered scores to take a commanding 24-12 lead.
-Brooklyn grabbed an early 4-3 lead in the second game, but the Mariners went on an 11-0 run for a 21-8 advantage down the stretch. Brooklyn showed some resistance towards the very end of the game with a three-score rally including back-to-back kills put away by freshman opposite,
Ashley Fung. However, the Mariners closed out the game with a kill following a BC error.
-The Bulldogs looked like a different team to start the third game, jumping out to a 4-1 lead. However, the Mariners once again countered, this time with a five-score rally to take the lead for good and close out the match.
-USMMA finished with a .346 hitting percentage to BC's 0.00%.

Ezri Shor, led BC with seven assists.

Yana Shaposhnikova finished with 11 digs and a pair of service aces.
Leading the Mariners
-Kyleigh Kappas picked up 2,000 career assist finishing with a match-high 33 for the evening.
-Shelby Bowman and Paige Smith finished with 10 kills a piece. Bowman also had four blocks.
-Nicole Ibinson had a match-high 24 digs.
