Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Bulldogs Close, But Don't Complete Comeback Against Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, NY---Despite staging a gutsy comeback after trailing by two games, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team fell in five, 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11), to fellow CUNYAC member Medgar Evers, in a non-conference match at the West Quad Center tonight.  Brooklyn drops to 4-5 overall on the season while the Cougars remain undefeated at 5-0.  The Bulldogs will look to end a two-match skid this Saturday at New Jersey City University as they take on the host at 11am and and Wilkes University at 1pm in a non-conference tri-match.

How It Happened
  • Trailing two games to none, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the third game.  The Cougars responded and the game would eventually be tied, 16-16.  Clinging to a 20-19 lead, BC made a crucial three-point run capped by a kill put away by junior outside hitter, Jasper Diangco. Brooklyn won their first game of the night on a Cougar service error.
  • With the scored tied, 17-17, in the fourth game, the Bulldogs rallied for five straight scores capped by a kill hit by senior setter, Michael Valentin. An Omar Rezika ace put the Bulldogs up 24-18.  The Cougars made one last run to cut the BC lead to 24-22 before Diangco ended the game with a kill to force a deciding set.
  • Medgar Evers jumped out to a commanding 5-1 lead in the final game.  However, the Bulldogs didn't lay down going on a four-score rally that cut the Cougars' lead to 10-9.  Unfortunately for BC, the Cougars were able to put a pair of back-to-back scores together at the end of the set to close out the match.
Box Score Breakdown
  • Medgar was the more efficient attacking team on the night hitting .130 to BC's .042.
