Brooklyn Drops Both in First CUNYAC Trimatch of the Season

New York, NY----The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped both matches of a CUNYAC trimatch hosted by Hunter College this afternoon. Brooklyn dropped a 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 11-25) decision to John Jay College in their first match of the day before falling to host Hunter, 3-0 (12-25, 13-25, 12-25), to close out the afternoon.  BC drops to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in CUNYAC with the loss.  The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in conference play at CCNY on Tuesday at 7pm.  

Trimatch Summary
  • The Bulldogs battled to the end in the first game against John Jay, deadlocked at 23 before the Bloodhounds out away a kill and followed up with a service ace to take a 1-0 lead in the match.  Trailing 18-11 in the second game, the Bulldogs rallied for five straight scores sparked by back-to-back kills hammered home by junior outside hitter, Jasper Diangco.  However, the Bloodhounds were able to hold the Bulldogs off enough to grab a 2-0 lead before cruising in the third game for the conference win.  
  • John Jay finished with 36 kills to BC's 23 in their match.  
  • The Bulldogs kept up with Hunter early in the first game before Hunter ratlled off nine straight scores. The second and third games reflected the first with Brooklyn taking small leads early in the games before Hunter took control with multiple long rallies. 
  • Hunter hit .296 to BC's .-135 for the match.

  • Diangco led BC with six kills against John Jay.
  • Sophomore middle hitter, Calvin Mullen, finished with three blocks against the Bloodhounds.
  • Senior setter, Michael Valentin, totaled a team-high 18 assists for the day.  He also had a team-high seven digs against Hunter. .
