Brooklyn, NY----After honoring 11 seniors before kickoff, the Brooklyn College men's soccer team capped a great day with a 4-2 conference win over Medgar Evers on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' third straight win to close out the regular season, they improve to 4-10 overall and 4-3 in CUNYAC, while the Cougars drop to 1-11 and 1-5. BC heads into the CUNYAC Championships as the No. 5 seed with their quarterfinal opponent officially announced tomorrow for next Wednesday's match.
Following a penalty kick save by BC starting keeper
Utku Tanritanir in 17', the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first on a header put into the net by
Luis Garcia off of a set piece placed perfectly by
Brian Navarrete in 26'. Brooklyn would head into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would go up 2-0 on the Cougars in 56' on an
Alex Sosa penalty conversion. Medgar Evers responded with a penalty kick make of their own just a minute later.
Navarrete recorded his second assist of the match by connecting with fellow senior
Akeem Hendricks in 65'. However, MEC would keep on attacking, and converted on their second penalty kick of the match in 71' to make things interesting.
Brooklyn had a couple of strong defensive stands before senior forward
Roko Radovani made a run to score an insurance goal in the final minute of play on an assist from fellow senior
Kimani Laylor.
BC out-shot Medgar Evers 22-7 for the match.
