Bulldogs Sweep Through Conference Trimatch

Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team got off to a 2-0 start in conference with CUNYAC sweeps of Baruch (25-23, 25-10, 25-16) and Lehman (25-11, 25-14, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon.  BC improves to 9-7 overall with the CUNYAC wins.  Brooklyn will look to keep it going on Monday, October 11, in another conference trimatch at York, where they will take on Hunter at noon and the host at 2pm.  

Falling behind 8-3 in their opening match against Baruch, the Bulldogs battled their way back and used a late four-point rally to take a 22-19 lead.  Freshman outside hitter, Aleah Rafat, secured the comeback with a kill assisted by junior setter, Ezri Shor.  Rafat finished with a match-high 15 kills and Shor set for a match-high 18 assists.  

Brooklyn jumped out to big leads in the next two sets to close out the match.  The Bulldogs finished with a .298 hitting percentage to the Bearcats' 0.00.  

Shor also led the way defensively with a match-high 10 digs for the match.  

BC rolled in the final match of the day against Lehman, stringing together long rallies late in each set.  Senior outside hitter, Inesa Shimcani, provided quality production off of the bench, finishing with seven kills and four digs.  Sophomore defensive specialist, Katia Mercado, also provided a spark off of the bench, finishing with eight assists.

Brooklyn served up 10 aces against the Lightning, with Mercado being responsible for five.
