Purchase, NY----In dramatic fashion, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season over Manhattanville College, 55-54. BC sophomore forward,
Elisha Park, was Friday night's hero, draining the game-winning foul shots with no time left in regulation. Brooklyn moves to 1-4 overall with the non-conference victory while the Valiants drop to 2-1 with their first loss of the season. The Bulldogs will look to keep it going on Saturday in the Manhattanville AJ Buchanan Tournament Championship against Kean University at 6pm.
Trailing the entire game leading up to Park's heroics, the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 capped by a made three-point field goal drained by junior guard,
Kayin Olajide, with 2:00 to cut the home team's lead to 52-50. The Valiants would end the drought on the next possession before junior guard Serge Thaysbule and senior guard split two-shot trips to the charity stripe after solid defensive stands.
Brooklyn started off slow, scoring their first point six minutes into the contest, trailing 10-1. However, the Bulldogs would claw their way back into the game and cut the Valiants' lead to 17-16 following a made three buried by sophomore guard,
Zuric Harvey.
The Bulldogs held the Valiants to 8.7% shooting from beyond the arc for the night.
Shy led all scorers with 19 points while dishing out a team-high five assists and coming up with a game-high five steals. He also shot 3-4 from beyond the arc on the evening. Park added 15 points while shooting 5-6 from the charity stripe. Thraysbule led Brooklyn with 10 rebounds. Manhattanville was led by Petey Galgano's team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds.
