Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Soccer team took BC Field for the first time since the 2019 season, and emotions were high for the Bulldogs, as a pregame moment of silence honored the memory of Coach Joseph Real Andre. The contest saw the home Bulldogs drop to 0-3 on the young season, while Old Westbury improves to 1-2.
Brooklyn jumped out to a halftime 1-0 lead as freshman
Angel Godinez scored on an assist from classmate
Anoh Boutin. The goal was the Bulldogs' first of the 2021 season.
The Panthers came storming back in the second half with three consecutive goals, as
Juan Gonzalez took a pass from Osiris Shepherd and found the net.
A few minutes later, on a questionable foul, Jean Gardy was awarded a penalty kick and gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The lead ballooned to 3-1 as Old Westbury found some fortune on an own goal from the Bulldogs.
BC fought back to get within a goal, 3-2, as
Arturo Zaraza made a great individual play to loft the ball past the last OW defender to get one more touch that found the net. The goal was assisted by
Demyan Turiy who made a tremendous ball ahead to give Zaraza the chance to convert.
The Panthers were able to crush any hopes of a Bulldog comeback, as Nicolas Puelinckx scored on an assist from Jay Hernandes in the game's final minutes to clinch the win.
Brooklyn will look for their first win this season on the road, as they travel to Farmingdale State this Monday, September 13th.
