Brooklyn, NY---In the first soccer game played on BC Field since the 2019 CUNYAC Championship, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs Women's Soccer team hosted St. Joseph's College Long Island on Wednesday, falling to the Golden Eagles, 11-0. Brooklyn falls to 0-1 on the year, while SJC improves to 1-1.
St. Joe's got an early goal from Gianna Costilletti and never looked back, dominating play and out-shooting the Bulldogs, 36-2
While Brooklyn will have to wait to earn their first win of the season, it was a tremendous accomplishment for the program to be back in action. The COVID-19 pandemic halted the program's activity and forced a cancellation of the entire 2020 season.
"It was great to see the team out there competing today," said first-year coach
Jose Castillo. "We gave a great effort and showed many qualities that will serve us well in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing us put in the work to have a memorable 2021 season."
Brooklyn goalkeeper
Mariama Sano played valiantly in her first career start, playing all 90 minutes, while recording 9 saves.
For the Golden Eagles, Yojaira Vasquez had a big first half, scoring a pair of goals to help her squad take a 4-0 advantage at the break. Giovanna LoGuidice recorded a pair of assists in the half.
Vasquez added her third score of the contest in the second half. Kayleigh Milton added a pair of goals in the second half as well.
The Bulldogs will see their first road action on Saturday as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Cairn University in non-conference action. St. Joe's will take on New Jersey City on Sunday.
