New York, NY----In a rematch of the 2020 CUNYAC Men's Basketball Championship, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team wasn't able to repeat the result, falling on the road at Baruch Wednesday night, 79-59, in conference play. Brooklyn drops to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in CUNYAC in their first game in a month. Baruch improves to 8-4 and 2-0 in conference play with the victory. The Bulldogs will look for their first win in 2022 as they continue their conference slate at Hunter on Saturday at 2pm.
After a slow start where the Bulldogs would find themselves trailing the home team 15-3, Brooklyn would claw their way out of the early hole thanks to a 12-2 run to cut the Baruch lead to 19-17 with 10:30 left in the first half. Brooklyn kept the pressure on and eventually took a 22-21 lead on a
Kayin Olajide make in the paint. Freshman guard,
David McFadden, gave the Bulldogs their last lead of the game (28-25) on three-point make before the Bearcats closed out the half on a 10-0 run beginning at the 3:23 mark.
Despite cutting the Baruch lead down to 37-35 in the opening minute of the second half after made three-pointer buried by Brooklyn junior forward,
Elisha Park, it would be the closest the Bulldogs would get for the rest of the contest. Baruch responded with 12-1 run to kick their lead back up to double-digits with 16:05 to go. The Bulldogs knocked the Baruch lead back down to single-digits in the next minute and a half, but the Bearcats always had a response and began to pull away in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Baruch shot 5-11 (45.5%) from beyond the arc to Brooklyn's 2-9 (22.2%) in the final 20 minutes of action.
Park led the Bulldogs with a team-high 15 points while grabbing five rebounds on the night. Olajide added added 14 points.
Four Bearcats reached double-digits in scoring led by Adnan Bajrami and Emil Purisic who scored 16 points each.
