Reading, PA---In their first matches in almost two years, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball dropped both matches at a season opening non-conference trimatch hosted by Alvernia University on Saturday. The Bulldogs were outlasted by Immaculata, 3-0 (25-27, 19-25, 19-25), in their first match of the day before falling to Alvernia, 3-0 (12-25, 4-25, 16-25) in the final match of the afternoon. Brooklyn will look for their first win when they return home to host Purchase College at the West Quad Center on Monday at 7pm.
Giving a valiant effort against Immaculata, the Bulldogs were in every set until the final point. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the second set before the Mighty Macs stormed back thanks to a ten-score rally to close out the set. Brooklyn finished with a 25-24 edge in kills over Immaculata and also finished with more digs, 36-34. However the Macs served up nine aces to the Bulldogs' four. Brooklyn was led by 8 kills a piece put away by
Darren Roach and
Alejandro Gallardo. BC junior setter,
Brian Fok, finished with a match-high 21 assists.
In the second match of the day, the home team jumped on Brooklyn from the opening serve, taking a 12-5 lead to start the match. The Golden Wolves never looked back by taking control of the next two sets.
Admir Cekic led the way for the Bulldogs with four kills. Fok added 12 more assists to his day. AU's Caleb Whitehead put away a match-high 10 kills and Nick Cummins served up six aces.
