Wayne, NJ----BC Women's Volleyball earned a non-conference split at a trimatch hosted by William Paterson University on Saturday. Brooklyn fell to WPU, 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-18), in the first match of the day before sweeping Maritime, 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-22), for the second time this season in their final match. BC moves to 14-12 overall with the split. Next Up: The Bulldogs close out conference play on the road at CCNY on Tuesday.
The Rundown
- The host school got out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set of the day before closing it out with a four-point rally. The Bulldogs battled in the second set, taking a late 23-22 lead on a four-point rally capped by back-to-back kills put away by Tessa Winkleman. However, the Pioneers responded with three straight scores of their own to take a 2-0 lead in the match. WPU served up 11 aces to the Bulldogs two for the match.
- Clinging to a 22-19 lead in the opening set against Maritime, the Bulldogs scored three straight points with a set-ending ace served up by Alanis Guinada. BC rolled in the second set before overcoming a late one-point deficit in the third set to win the match.
Leading the Bulldogs
- Winkleman and Ashley Fung led the offensive attack on the day finishing with 17 kills each between the two matches. Fung had a double-double in the first match with 10 kills and 11 digs. She finished with 13 digs against Maritime.
- Emma Steele put away a BC career-high eight kills while hitting .667 in Brooklyn's win over Maritime.
