Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College opened CUNYAC play with a 1-1 record on Tuesday, rolling to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-7) sweep of York College before falling to Hunter College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 26-24), in a rematch of the 2021 conference final that the Bulldogs won. Brooklyn moves to 9-9 overall with the split while York drops to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in CUNYAC and Hunter improves to 9-3 overall and 2-0 by the end of the trimatch. Next Up: BC travels to Baruch on Saturday for another conference trimatch where the Bulldogs will take on Lehman at 12pm and the host at 2pm.
The Rundown
- Brooklyn cruised through the first match of the day against York, jumping out to a 10-1 lead in the first set and never looked back. BC served up 20 aces for the match to the Cardinals' one. Brooklyn also hot .426 as a team for the match.
- Hunter came out on a roll against the Bulldogs after defeating York in the second match of the day. The visitors led 22-9 in the opening set before the Bulldogs rallied for five straight scores. With BC clinging to an 8-7 lead in the second set, the Hawks rallied for 11 straight scores for a commanding 18-8 advantage. Brooklyn came alive in the third set, grabbing an 18-17 advantage after a 5-0 run sparked by a Tessa Winkleman kill. BC was on the brink of forcing a fourth set, holding a 24-23 lead before the Hawks closed out the match with three straight scores.
Leading the Bulldogs
- Aleah Rafat led the way with the attack against York finishing with a match-high nine kills to go along with four digs and two service aces. Senior setter Katia Mercado finished with a match-high 16 assists and 8 service aces against the Cardinals.
- Winkleman put away a team-high nine kills, came up with 7 digs, and had a pair of block assists against the Hawks. Rafat added 8 kills and 4 assists to her day against Hunter.
