New York, NY----The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of conference wins in a CUNYAC trimatch hosted by Baruch on Saturday. In their first match of the day, the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-14) win over Lehman before sweeping Baruch, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-12) in the final match of the afternoon. Brooklyn improves to 3-1 in CUNYAC and 11-9 overall with the wins. Next Up: The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround as the team travels to Rutgers-Camden for a non-conference trimatch where they will take on Alvernia at 1pm followed by the host at 3pm.
The Rundown
- Brooklyn came out of the gate on a roll, taking a 13-3 lead in the opening set against Lehman. The Bulldogs were even more dominant in the second set, jumping out to a 10-0 lead and never looking back. Lehman took a 3-0 lead to start the third set before Brooklyn went on an 8-2 run to take the lead for good and close out the match. Brooklyn served up 16 aces and hit .339 in victory.
- The Bulldogs picked up where they left off in their second match of the day, jumping out to 5-1 lead in the opening set against Baruch. Brooklyn would find themselves trailing 11-7 in the second set before going on 5-1 run to tie it up, 12-12. Brooklyn followed that run with another 4-0 spurt that gave them the lead for good. Brooklyn rolled in the third set against the Bearcats, closing out the match with a 5-1 rally.
Leading the Bulldogs
- Senior defensive specialist, Alanis Guinada, led the way on the ground with a match-high 9 digs to go along with 4 service aces against Lehman. Sophomore outside hitter, Aleah Rafat, put away a match-high 9 kills while hitting .615. Freshman setter, Amra Mulic, finished with a match-high 9 assists to go along with 4 aces, and 5 digs.
- Senior outside hitter, Ashley Fung, made huge contributions offensively and defensively finishing with 11 kills, 17 Digs, and 4 blocks. Sophomore outside hitter, Tessa Winkleman, put away a match-high 12 kills and came up with 13 digs for another Brooklyn double-double. Mulic just missed the team's third double-double, finishing with 16 assists and 9 digs.
