Brooklyn Falls to St. Mary's in Tournament Opener

St. Mary's City, MD---Coming off of their first win of the season on Thursday over Old Westbury at home, the Brooklyn College men's basketball dropped the opening game of the Dan Greene and Wayne Cook Memorial Tournament to host St. Mary's College of Maryland, 89-65, on Saturday.  Brooklyn moves to 1-2 overall with the non-conference loss while SMC advances to their tournament's championship game tomorrow with their season opening victory.  Next Up: BC will play in the consolation game of the tourney tomorrow at 1:00 pm.  The Bulldogs will play either Ferrum or Valley Forge.  

The Rundown 
  • The teams exchanged buckets to start the contest with Brooklyn holding last lead of the game with 17:29 to go in the first half following a made jumper buried by junior guard, Zuric Harvey.  SMC responded with a 16-0 run.  Freshman guard, Franz Depra, knocked down a three to cut the Seahawks lead to 19-10 before the home team went on a 15-4 run to kick their lead to 20 points with a little over 8:00 remianing in the first half.  Brooklyn trailed 50-33 at the half.  
  • Trailing 59-36 with just under 18 minutes to go in regulation, Brooklyn went on a 17-2 run that included three three-point makes in a row to cut the Seahawks lead down to 8 points with 13:20 left in the contest.  
  • St. Mary's responded and would go on to lead by as many as 26 points in the second half. 
  • The home team shot 54.1% from the field on the evening.  BC was better from beyond the arc on the evening, shooting 36% to SMC's 6%.  
  • Brooklyn was outrebounded 53-22.  
Leading the Bulldogs
  • Kayin Olajide scored 12 points while grabbing a team-high four rebounds.  
  • Malik Dale also scored 12 points and came up with a pair of steals.  
Leading the Seahawks
  • Five players reached double-figures in scoring, led by Micah Henry's game-high 22 points. He also grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.  
  • Jordan Goodwin added 13 points and grabbed 6 boards.
