Brooklyn, NY---Overcoming an early deficit, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team used a strong second half to cruise past Rutgers-Newark, 83-59. Brooklyn improves to 2-3 overall with the non-conference win while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 2-3. Next Up: The Bulldogs will host No. 3 New York University on Wednesday at 5:00 pm as the first half of a basketball doubleheader at the West Quad Center.
The Rundown
- Trailing by as many as 7 points in the first period, BC sophomore forward, Mary Dolgin, knocked down a three to cut the Scarlet Raiders' lead to 23-22 heading into the second.
- Brooklyn took the lead for good following a pair of Cheyenne Castellano makes at the charity stripe with 8:03 left in the first half. Brooklyn would exend their lead to as many as 10 points following a three-point make buried by Aleah Rafat.
- BC closed out the third quarter with a 6-0 run to head into the final period with a commanding 65-44 advantage.
- Brooklyn knocked down 11 threes on the evening and out-rebounded Rutgers-Newark 56-35.
Leading the Bulldogs
- Dolgin led the way offensively with a team-high 17 points off of the bench while connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. She also grabbed 4 boards and blocked a pair of shots.
- Gianna Gotti chipped 15 poibts to go along with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals.
- Nancy Pham had the team's only double-double, finishing with 11 points and game-high 13 rebounds.
Leading RUN
- Ebony Odom Barnes scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
- Sanaa Brodie added 16 points and grabbed 11 boards off of the bench.
