Brooklyn College Field----After a 683 day layoff, the Brooklyn College softball team had something to smile about tonight - finally getting back on the field. However, the Bulldogs didn't get the results they were looking for as they dropped both games of a season opening doubleheader to borough foe, St. Joseph's Brooklyn, on Monday. BC fell in the first game, 18-0, before being shutout again in the nightcap, 26-0. The Bears improve to 8-1 with the non-conference victories. Brooklyn will look to bounce back on Wednesday as the team remains home to host New Jersey City University at 4:30 pm for another non-conference doubleheader.
In the first game, the visitors opened up the scoring in the second inning with four runs on two hits and a pair of errors. The Bears put the game out of reach in the next inning, tacking on nine runs on six hits and two more BC errors. SJC's Jessica Mecham pitched a no-hitter while striking out ten batters in all five innings of work.
St. Joe's scored twice in the their first at-bat in Game 2 of the doubleheader and kept a steady stream of scoring for the remainder of the contest. Brooklyn senior
Kayla Steele, managed the Bulldogs' first hit of the season in the bottom of the first inning.
