Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a conference doubleheader to Baruch on Friday. Baruch took Game 1, 11-2, before closing out the day with a 12-4 victory in Game 2. Brooklyn moves to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in CUNYAC with the losses while Baruch improves to 8-6 and 2-0. The Bulldogs will step away from CUNYAC play on Tuesday as they host Yeshiva for a non-conference doubleheader at Brooklyn College beginning at 4:30 pm.
Trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Brooklyn senior,
Chanel Jemmott, singled to start things off. Next up,
Carolina Alfonso walked, before
Monica Prado Capon connected on a fielder's choice where Jemmott and Alfonso scored on a throwing error. However, the Bulldogs rally would fall short as the Bearcats tacked on four unanswered runs in the top of the sixth inning to close out the game. Jemmott,
Danielle Guzzardi, and
Stella Witkowski all had hits for the Bulldogs. Bridget Campanelli went 3-3 with a pair of doubles for Baruch. Caroline Gallagher improved to 3-1 with the win in the circle for the Bearcats.
Finding themselves in a similar position in Game 2, trailing 12-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs found some late offense. With one out, Witkowski reached base on a single and then sole second. After a
Kayla Trembone walk, Jemmott hit an RBI single, scoring Witkowski. Alfonso would then single, scoring Trembone and Jemmott. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Baruch made a great play at second base to end the game in the sixth. Witkowski went 2-2 and stole a pair of bases for Brooklyn. Alfonso and Jemmott each went 2-3. Carly Quint went 2-4 for the Bearcats with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Julia Cuttone earned the win in the circle for Baruch.
