Brooklyn, NY---Despite continued improvement, the Brooklyn College softball team was outlasted in both games of a conference doubleheader against John Jay on Wednesday. BC fell in the first game, 9-3, before losing in the nightcap, 9-3. Brooklyn moves to 2-12 overall and 0-8 with the losses while John Jay improves to 8-9 and 5-3. The Bulldogs continue their conference slate against Baruch on the road at Flowers Park in New Rochelle in CUNYAC doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
The Bulldogs came out on fire offensively with three singles in the top of the first inning, but weren't able to capitalize with a run. Brooklyn would cut the Bloodhound lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning thanks to a leadoff double crushed by
Chanel Jemmott. She would eventually score on an RBI sinlge ripped by
Monica Prado Capon. John Jay would respond with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning. Brooklyn added a pair runs in the top of the fifth inning on RBI singles hit by freshman pitcher,
Danielle Guzzardi, and Jemmott that would score
Crystal Alvarado and
Kayla Trembone respectively. However, the Bloddohunds padded their lead in the bottom of the fifth with five runs for the final score. Jemmott and Trembone both went 2-4 for Brooklyn. America Rivera and Julianne Graepel both went 2-3 and scored two runs each. Rivera also picked up the win in the circle for John Jay.
BC struck first in Game 2 in the top of the second as Jemmott scored on a throwing error after hitting a single to leadoff the inning. Brooklyn's lead wouldn't last long as the Bloddhounds tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 advantage heading into the third. After a stalemate through the third inning, Brooklyn tied the game in the top of the fourth on an RBI single slapped by
Carolina Alfonso that scored
Zoey Van Vleet. Unfortunately for BC, the Bloddhounds opened the game up in the bottom of the inning with six runs.
Stella Witkowski led Brooklyn offensively in the nightcap going 3-4 with a pair of doubles. Jemmott had another strong showing offensively going 2-4, scoring a run, and driving in a run. Emily Sperl and Jordyn Prince both went 3-4 for the Bloodhounds while strating pitcher, Julianne Graepel, earned the win.
