Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a CUNYAC doubleheader on Tuesday to Lehman College. Lehman took the first game of the day, 12-5, before completing the series sweep with a 14-2 win in six innings in Game 2. Brooklyn drops to 2-16 overall and 0-12 in the conference with the losses while the Lightning improves to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in CUNYAC with the road victories. The Bulldogs will be back at it on Thursday at home against York in a conference doubleheader makeup beginning at 4pm.
Game 1 | Brooklyn - 5, Lehman - 12
Lehman would get on the board first in the day's opening inning with a pair of runs on two RBI ingles. The Bulldogs responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning as freshman hurler,
Danielle Guzzardi, scored on a passed ball after crushing a two-out triple earlier in the inning. Lehman would score eight unanswered runs until the Bulldogs cut Lehman's lead to 10-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a 2-RBI single hit by
Zoey Van Vleet that scored Guzzardi and
Mariama Sano. Brooklyn would then match a pair of Lehman runs in the seventh inning on a
Stella Witkowski run scored on a passed ball and another RBI single hit by Van Vleet that scored Guzzardi.
Guzzardi went 3-4 while pitching all seven innings with 12 strikeouts. LC's Sam Nazar earned the win finishing with 17 strikeouts. Michelle Frias went 4-5 with seven RBIs offensively for the Lightning.
Game 2 | Brooklyn - 2, Lehman - 14 (6 Innings)
Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning on RBI singles hit by Van Vleet and
Monica Prado Capon, the Lightning responded with 14 unanswered runs through the next five innings. The Bulldogs had five errors for the game while the Lightning played flawless defense. Sky Mercado picked up the win for Lehman in all six innings of play finishing with nine strikeouts. Van Vleet went 2-3 for the game with an RBI. Guzzardi and
Kayla Trembone scored the runs for BC in the first inning.
