Bulldogs Sweep York for First CUNYAC Wins of Season

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team picked up their first two conference wins of the season on Thursday at home over York.  BC rolled to a 15-0 win in five innings in Game 1 of the CUNYAC doubleheader before closing out the day with a 14-2 victory in five innings in Game 2.  Brooklyn improves to 4-16 overall and 2-12 in conference play while York drops to 0-12 and 0-8.  The Bulldogs will play their third conference doubleheader in as many days tomorrow on the road against Hunter on Randall's Island Field #12 beginning at 3pm.

Behind five shutout innings thrown by freshman pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning.  Guzzardi picked up her third win of the season while yielding two hits and only walking one Cardinal batter in Game 1.  Zoey Van Vleet continued her syandout offensive streak going 3-4 with six RBI.  She also scored twice.  Kayla Trembone made the most of taking first base all four at-bats, scoring four runs for the Bulldogs on the game.

Guzzardi gave another stellar effort in Game 2 to pick up her fourth win, going all five innings, yielding four hits, and charged with only one earned run.  BC jumped out to another 5-0 lead after the first inning leading off with an inside-the-park homer ripped by freshman Stella Witkowski.  Brooklyn tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after already being up 10-2.  Witkowski went 2-4 with a pair of RBI and scored twice.  Van Vleet capped off a career day, going 2-4 with a triple.  Trembone was 1-1 with a double that knocked in two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
