New Era of BC Cheerleading Begins with Brooklyn Alum, Toni Ancona, at the Helm

Brooklyn, NY----Announced by the Brooklyn College Department of Athletics, Toni Ancona, has been named new Head Coach of BC Cheerleading.  Ancona previously served as an assistant coach for the program during the 2019-2020 season.

No stranger at all to Brooklyn College Cheerleading, Coach Ancona cheered at Brooklyn herself from 2016-2019 as a BC student prior to being appointed as an assistant coach.

"It is an honor to be named Head Coach of the Brooklyn College Cheerleading team, and to be a part of bringing back a program that I hold so close to my heart, a program that has accomplished so much," Ancona expressed upon her appointment. "I am looking forward to being part of a new era of cheerleading after a two-year hiatus. I am happy that cheerleading is coming back to the West Quad and I will be able to utilize all that I've learned from previous head coaches as a cheerleader and assistant coach."

In addition to her experience at Brooklyn, Ancona served as a dance and gymnastics teacher at the Little Gym for children ages 4-12.  She has also served as a cheerleading clinics organizer for a non-for-profit organization for aspiring cheerleaders ages 4-18.

She has earned a number of certifications in the sport including a USA Cheer certificate, a USA Cheer and Safety and Risk Management certificate, and USA Concussion Training.  She is also CPR, First Aid, and EPI Pen certified.

Ancona is a psychosocial/mental health counselor at a lower school in New York City.  A Brooklyn College alum twice over, Ancona received her BA in Psychology and MA in Mental Health Counseling from the college.
