BC Falls to New Jersey City in Home Opener

Brooklyn, NY----Staging an emphatic first half comeback, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team wasn't able to maintain the momentum in the final twenty minutes of play, falling to New  Jersey City University, 71-51, in their Home Opener at the West Quad Center on Saturday.  Brooklyn drops to 0-2 to start the season with the non-conference loss while the Gothic Knights won their Season Opener.

  • Brooklyn will host the second part of a Maroon Madness basketball doubleheader at the West Quad Center on Wednesday against Farmingdale State at 7:15 pm. 
How It Happened
  • Trailing 16-6 with 10:41 to go in the first half, the Bulldogs went on a 10-2 run, to tie the game by the 5:50 mark.  Brooklyn would eventually take the lead on a made three buried by junior guard, Malik Dale.  
  • Brooklyn held their final lead, 24-23, with just under four minutes to play in the first half, before the Gothic Knights went on a 12-0 run en route to a 38-26 halftime advantage.  
  • The visitors maintained a double-digit lead most of the second half.  Brooklyn cut NJCU's advantage to as few as eight points, 46-38, with 12:38 left in regulation.  However, the Gothic Knights responded with a 6-1 lead and controlled the contest from that point on.  
  • NJCU shot 46.2% from the field to the Bulldogs' 34.4% for the game.  
  • The Gothic Knights' Avante Gilbert and Daniel Rodriguez shared game-high in socring with 14 points each.  
For the Bulldogs
  • Coming off of a 31-point performance at William Paterson Wednesday, Dale finished with a team-high 13 points. 
  • Senior guard, Zuric Harvey, added 11 points.  
  • Junior guard, Serge Thraysbule, scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds off of the bench.  
  • Junior forward, Mekhi Barlow, grabbed a game-high 10 boards.
