Late Run Falls Short at Home for the Bulldogs Against Rivier, 79-72

Brooklyn, NY----Despite a spirited run late in the second half, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team dropped a 79-72 decision in non-conference play to Rivier University on Tuesday at the West Quad Center.  Brooklyn falls to 0-6 with the non-conference loss while the Raiders improve to 4-1 with the win.

How it Happened
  • Trailing by as many as 27 points with 10:31 to go in the second half, the Bulldogs stormed back in the final ten minutes of the contest.  Facing a 64-45 deficit with a little over six minutes to go, the Bulldogs went on a 19-4 run, cutting the Raiders' lead to 68-62 with three minutes remaining in regulation.  The run was highlighted by a pair of threes knocked down by junior guard, David McFadden, and capped by a three drained by senior guard, Zuric Harvey.  However, Rivier responded with a three of their own and eventually kicked their lead back up to double-digits in the final minute of action.
  • The visitors opened the game with a 7-0 run before BC junior forward, Mekhi Barlow, scored the Bulldogs' first basket at the 17:27 mark.  BC closed the gap to as few as six points on a make in the paint finished by Brooklyn junior forward, Gabriel Barker, with 11:54 to go in the first half before RU went on a 9-0 run, going on to lead by as many at 19 points in the first half and eventually taking a 37-21 halftime lead after Harvey knocked down a three just before the sound of the intermission buzzer. 
  • Brooklyn shot 43% in the second half after shooting 21% from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play.
  • The visitors capitalized on 20 points off of turnovers to Brooklyn's 10. 
  • Rivier's Ghared Boyce and O'Darius Cade combined for 43 points with Boyce finishing with a game-high 23 while shooting 7-11 from behind the arc. 
For the Bulldogs
  • Junior guard, Serge Thraysbule, and Harvey scored 18 points each on the evening.  Thraysbule also pulled down eight boards. 
  • McFadden chipped in 10 points off of the bench. 
  • Junior guard, Stephon McGill, grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with seven points.
