BC Edged Out in Season Opener at William Paterson, Dale Nets Game-High 31 Points

Wayne, NJ----Despite a game-high 31 points poured in by junior guard, Malik Dale, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team was outlasted in their season opener at William Paterson University on Wednesday, 70-66.  WPU improves to 1-0 to start their season with the non-conference win.  The Pioneers have been victorious in the last seven meetings with the Bulldogs.

  • Brooklyn hosts their Home Opener against another NJAC member foe, New Jersey City University, on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1pm. 
How It Happened
  • Down 19-11 with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half, Brooklyn went on a 16-2 run capped by a Zuric Harvey three-point make.  Junior transfer, Stephon McGill, played a role in the run, scoring six points in the 8-minute span. 
  • WPU closed out the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 29-27 lead at the break. 
  • Trailing by as many as eight points in the second half, the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at the 7-minute mark.  Junior guard, David McFadden buried a three during the key run. 
  • With the Bulldogs leading 64-59 following a Dale three-point make with 3:44 to go in the game, the Pioneers responded with 10-0 to take the lead for good and eventually close out the contest. 
  • Four Pioneers scored in double-figures, led by MJ Moncrieffe's 20 points. 
Team Comparison
  • Brooklyn turned the ball over four more times on the evening than the Pioneers.
  • The Bulldogs shot 9-25 from behind the arc to WPU's 6-19. 
  • WPU went 10-19 from the charity stripe to the Bulldogs' 3-7. 
For the Bulldogs
  • Dale shot 6-15 from behind the arc and grabbed four rebounds.
  • McFadden was BC's other double-digit scorer, finishing with 10 points.  He also grabbed six boards. 
  • McGill was a bucket away from a double-double in his first game in maroon and gold, finishing with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
