Brooklyn, NY---Despite improving as the match wore on, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (12-25, 15-25, 25-18, 15-25) decision to John Jay at the West Quad Gymnasium on Tuesday. BC falls to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in CUNYAC with the conference loss while the Bloodhounds improve to 10-6 and 4-2 respectively. Next Up: The Bulldogs continue their three-match homestand against Hunter on Thursday at 6pm.
How It Happened
- After trading points to start the match, the Bloodhounds took control of the first set beginning with a five score rally. The visitors kept a comfortable lead through the first set and extended their lead to 23-10 late in the game.
- Following a service error to put Brooklyn on the board first to start the second set, the Bloodhounds responded with a seven-point rally including five aces. Brooklyn managed a late 5-0 run highlighted by a kill put away by Fidel Maldonado Jr. to cut John Jay's lead to 21-13, but the Bloodhounds eventually closed out the set on a kill.
- Brooklyn came alive in the third set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead capped by a kill hammered by Andres Vargas. Brooklyn kept a lead for the remainder of the set, closing out the third on a four-score rally sparked and capped by kills put away by Tommy Min.
- John Jay weathered the storm in the fourth set by jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Trailing 24-12, the Bulldogs didn't go away, rallying for three straight scores including an ace served up by Yinuo Zhang. However, the Bloodhounds ended the match on a Jack Nugent kill.
