Phoenixville, PA----Overcoming an early 6-0 deficit, the Brooklyn College softball rallied to take Game 1, 8-7, of a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Valley Forge on Saturday. The home team bounced back to win Game 2, 10-1. Brooklyn moves to 3-1 to start the season with the split while UVF goes to 3-3. Next Up: Brooklyn remains on the road at New Jersey City University on Tuesday for a non-conference double bill beginning at 3:00 pm.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- Trailing 6-0 in the top of the third inning, Brooklyn's Kaitlyn Belfield belted a single to score Zoey Van Vleet to get the Bulldogs started.
- Brooklyn scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-6 lead highlighted by a 2 RBI single hit by Isabelle Frank and an RBI single cracked by Belfield to give BC the one-run advantage.
- BC extended their lead to 8-6 on an RBI double crushed by Grismarly Brito Mejia.
- Valley Forge's rally in the bottom of the seventh fell sort following an RBI triple.
For the Bulldogs (Game 1)
- Belfied went 2-3 with 2 RBI and scored a run.
- Frank went 2-4 with 2 RBI.
- Van Vleet and Monica Prado-Capon scored two runs each.
- Starting pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi, earned the win, improving to 3-0 on the season.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The home team scored 10 runs on 10 hits, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings.
- Belfield led the fourth inning off with a single before being driven home on a triple hit by Yesileidy Paulino with no outs. However, the Bulldogs' rally fell short as two runners later in the inning were left stranded.
- UVF closed out the game with a five-run fifth inning.
For the Bulldogs (Game 2)
- Belfield, Paulino, and Guzzardi all went 1-2.
- Van Vleet went 1-3.
