New York, NY-----Despite playing three sold sets, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team fell to John Jay, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-15), in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament on Tuesday. Brooklyn moves 8-16 with the loss and is eliminated from postseason play while the Bloodhounds improve to 18-9 and advance to the semifinals against No. 2 Baruch on Thursday.
How It Happened
- After trailing 16-11, the Bulldogs found themselves leading John Jay, 23-22 late in the first set following a kill put away by senior middle, Fidel Maldonado, Jr. However, the Bloodhounds responded with three straight scores sparked by a kill and a service ace to take the first set.
- Brooklyn got off to a hot start to the second set, grabbing a 7-3 advantage. The Bulldogs contiuned to control the set and took a 21-19 lead after a three-score flurry. John Jay responded late in the set once again with five unanswered points before taking the second set on a kill.
- BC hung in with the home team halfway through the third set, but seemed to run out of gas. John Jay closed out the match on a six-score rally.
- John Jay finished with a 33-21 advantage in kills while hitting .133 to BC's -.058.
- Brooklyn finished with a 9-7 advantage in blocks.
Leading the Bulldogs
- Tommy Min finished with a team-high seven kills and came up with eight digs.
- Maldonado, Jr. put away five kills and finished with a two block assists and two solo blocks.
- David Lema set for a match-high 20 assists and came up with six digs.
