Bronx, NY----For the first time since 2015, the Brooklyn College softball team defeated Lehman College, sweeping the conference double bill on the road on Tuesday. The Bulldogs took Game 1 10-1 (6 Innings) before closing out the afternoon with a 6-3 victory in Game 2. Winners of their last six games, the Bulldogs improve to 9-12 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC while the Lightning drops to 4-12 and 0-6 respectively. Next Up: The Bulldogs take a break from their conference slate as they host Sarah Lawrence on Friday for a non-conference twin bill at Brooklyn College Field beginning at 5pm.
How It Happened (Game 1)
- Brooklyn got on the board first in the top of the second inning before shortstop, Melanie Millan, gave BC a 2-0 lead with an RBI single that drove Aleah Rafat home.
- Leading 2-1, Brooklyn scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth. Brooklyn steadily continued to take full control of the contest following RBI singles slapped by Kaitlyn Belfield and Dash Goodman in the fifth inning for an 7-1 advantage. Isabelle Frank joined the party with an RBI double to score Millan in the sixth. BC added two more runs in the sixth inning on a pair of RBI singles hit by Belfield and Nadeen Khalil.
For the Bulldogs (Game 1)
- BC starting pitcher, Danielle Guzzardi, earned her eighth win of the season after six solid innings in the circle, giving up just the one run on a solo homer, yielding seven hits while striking out nine Lehman batters.
- Belfield was 3-4 with two RBIs and scored twice.
- Yesileidy Paulino went 3-4 with a double.
- Millan went 2-4 and scored twice.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The Bulldogs carried their momentum from Game 1 into the first inning of Game 2, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on RBI singles hit by Frank and Khalil.
- Lehman responded with three runs in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead.
- Paulino helped tie the game in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI ground out that scored Khalil.
- Brooklyn took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs highlighted by RBI singles hit by Zoey Van Vleet and Frank. Paulino scored the winning run.
- Guzzardi retired six of seven batters in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.
For the Bulldogs (Game 2)
- Guzzardi earned her second win of the day, striking out 11 Lehman batters.
- Frank went 2-3 with two RBIs and scored twice.
- Van Vleet was 2-3 with an RBI and scored.
